Debra Bruno is running for a three-year term on the Board of Education. Below is her statement in her own words.

I am a 13-year resident of Hasbrouck Heights and I am employed as a School Psychologist in Bergen County. I am also married to a lifelong educator. Over the course of recent years, Hasbrouck Heights Public Schools have steadily improved their rating and scholastic scores. It is considered a competitive academic environment with only more positive growth on the horizon.

I am confident that my professional experience and accomplishments have sufficiently prepared me to assume the responsibility expected of a team player on your Board of Education. Besides being a school psychologist, I have certifications in social work, behavior management, and addictions counseling.

I am also a licensed Professional Counselor. Through hard work and setting high standards within my profession, I have been recognized as a Certified Diplomate and Fellow in the American Psychotherapy Association. Affiliations include the national associations for psychologists, social workers and educators.

The realm of education certainly has its challenges ahead. My extensive experience and training will assist me in fulfilling the role of Board of Education member. I have training in assessment in areas of administration and interpretation of test scores, child development, understanding of cultural diversity, child advocacy, issues facing families, and knowledge of special education code and regulations.

There have been numerous committees in which I have participated as a former Board of Education member and professional staff member. These experiences have been rewarding and encompass a comprehensive range pertinent to school functioning and performance. Community service is an important aspect to the school arena, and I have been active in linking them together to benefit the education of students.
