Students Celebrate Cultures of the World

Lincoln School fourth graders participate in United Nations Day

About 50 nations across the globe from Albania to Uraguay were celebrated by the entire fourth grade class at l Monday morning as the students took part in the United Nations Day event.

Students got up on stage in teams or individually to share important significant facts about their heritage. One student told the audience that soccer is the most popular sport in Egypt. Another student said there are about 300 different kinds of breads in Germany. The ice cream cone was first invented in Italy, another student reported.

The exercise gave all the students an opportunity to celebrate their own cultures and learn about those of their fellow classmates.

Parents and teachers watched closely as the students took the stage, many who were clad in outfits that represent their heritage. Some students even went as far as to spray-paint their hair the color of their country’s flag.

Tables of food and treats representing all the different cultures such as baklava, tandoori chicken, ziti, scones and more lined the entire wall of the gym ready to be shared by all.
