Corpus Christi Students Collect Hundreds of Pajamas for Needy Children

Students collected 296 pairs of pajamas for the Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive

It’s certainly the season for giving to others and the community has come through by collecting 296 pairs of pajamas for the Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive.

The school’s efforts benefit the Pajama Program, a non-profit organization which provides pajamas and books to needy children in the area. The school participated in the drive in conjunction with Scholastic Books which will donate one book for every pair of pajamas donated.

On Wednesday, students in Michele Donovan and Carroll Carris’ first grade classes were to get a glimpse of how their efforts have gone a long way as they were to meet with a representative from an area organization which will distribute the pajamas to those in need.

Last year the first grade collected about 70 pairs of pajamas for this drive but this year it was open to the entire school. As a result they more than surpassed their goal, said Donovan.

Corpus Christi School is also taking part in other efforts to help those this holiday season. They are collecting teddy bears to be given to hospital patients who will be spending the holidays in the hospital. A donation box sits in the main lobby in the school and bears will be collected until Dec. 21.

The school is also taking part along with the church community in the annual Giving Tree effort. A huge pile of gifts sits next to a large Christmas tree in the hallway, all donated gifts to help benefit those less fortunate this season.
