Youth Council Presides Over Meeting

Winners of the Environmental Commission's poster contest receive certificates

The first half hour of the mayor and council meeting Tuesday night was devoted to the youth of the borough as several high school students took seats at the dais to fulfill their roles as members of the Youth Week Council while elementary school youngsters waited with their parents in the audience to receive their awards for winning the borough’s Environmental Commission poster contest.

High school teacher Barbara Kritzer, who serves as Student Council advisor said the Youth Week program is conducted with the student council but a student does not have to be a member in order to volunteer to serve on the Youth Week Council.

Youth Week Mayor Gabe Sagura called the meeting to order as Mayor Rose Heck and borough council members sat behind them at the dais. The Youth Week Council members each gave their commissioner reports - Alexandra Seda presented the police report, Maria Alcivar gave the recreation report, Tom Nicoletti presented streets and sanitation, Brianna Walsh provided the report on public facilities, Tom Pellegrino gave the fire department report and Meron Aberha presented the health department report.
