(nj.com subscription) — Residents in Helmetta were among many New Jerseyans who spotted a rare daytime fireball streaking across the sky Saturday afternoon, May 30. The bright meteor, visible from numerous Garden State towns, traveled more than 100 miles through the upper atmosphere before disintegrating high above Galloway Township, sparking colorful descriptions from surprised witnesses on beaches and highways.
