118-Unit Apartment Building, Renovation Of Hillsborough Shopping Center Approved
The project will also include the construction of a drive-thru restaurant on the property.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A new 118-unit apartment building and the renovation of run-down Hillsborough shopping center was recently approved by the township.
Hillsborough's Planning Board unanimously approved JSM at Hillsborough, part of Edgewood Properties, application to build renovate the former Cost Cutters shopping center off Route 206 and to build the new apartment complex behind it along Andria Avenue during the Dec. 9 meeting.
The new project includes a three-story apartment building with 118 units, which are a mix of 1-, 2-, and 3- bedroom units. Of those units, 29 units will be affordable which is part of the township's settlement of the affordable housing lawsuit.

The apartment building will also include amenities such as an outdoor pool area with cabana and pool house, indoor clubhouse, business center, gym, great room, and leasing office.
Additionally, the project will revamp the two current buildings in the shopping center which remains mostly vacant. A 2,500 square-foot drive-thru restaurant will also be constructed on the southeast corner of the property near Route 206.

It's been just under a year since the application was first heard with the board expressing concerns, mainly over parking.
"Thank you to the applicant for addressing our concerns and making this a much etter project for Hillsborough," said Mayor Shawn Lipani.
The board placed one stipulation on the project that business hours will be limited to run from 5 a.m. to midnight.
