306 Deaths, 3,820 Cases: Coronavirus In Somerset County

The latest on the coronavirus outbreak in Somerset County as of Tuesday, May 5.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — The total number of positive cases of the new coronavirus reported in Somerset County on Tuesday has increased to 3,820 cases and 306 deaths, according to state officials.

Looking at the overall numbers, 8 percent of the confirmed cases in Somerset County have died.

Within Somerset County, Franklin Township has been hit the hardest, with 1,022 confirmed cases and almost a third of the county's total deaths at 85 fatalities.

Somerset County still remains in the middle of the pack, far below some of the hardest hit counties. Bergen County is reporting 16,460 confirmed cases of the virus and 1,261 total deaths.

Gov. Phil Murphy announced on Tuesday that New Jersey's number of overall cases rose to 130,593 and deaths hit 8,244. Read more: NJ Coronavirus Updates: Here's What You Need To Know

One major area of concern is nursing homes. Murphy said Tuesday the state will be clamping down on nursing homes as long -term care facility deaths continue to spiral upward amid the coronavirus crisis.

In Somerset County there are 1,046 cases spread among 30 impacted nursing homes and long-term care facilities. There have been 170 deaths at these facilities as reported by the New Jersey Department of Health last week. Read More: Somerset Co. Nursing Home Death Toll Rising In Coronavirus Crisis

  • Bedminster Township: 32 cases (4 deaths)
  • Bernards Township: 204 cases (29 deaths)
  • Bernardsville Borough: 57 cases (1 death)
  • Bound Brook Borough: 247 cases (11 deaths)
  • Branchburg Township: 71 cases (2 deaths)
  • Bridgewater Township: 407 cases (48 deaths)
  • Far Hills Borough: 3 cases
  • Franklin Township: 1,022 cases (85 deaths)
  • Green Brook Township: 128 cases (23 deaths)
  • Hillsborough Township: 252 cases (30 deaths)
  • Manville Borough: 110 cases (4 deaths)
  • Millstone Borough: 2 cases
  • Montgomery Township: 91 cases (2 deaths)
  • North Plainfield Borough: 266 cases (24 deaths)
  • Peapack-Gladstone Borough: 31 cases (1 death)
  • Raritan Borough: 83 cases (5 deaths)
  • Rocky Hills Borough: 5 cases
  • Somerville Borough: 100 cases (4 deaths)
  • South Bound Brook Borough: 52 cases (2 deaths)
  • Warren Township:103 cases (11 deaths)
  • Watchung Borough: 76 cases (11 deaths)

Readers may notice that the total above accounts for less deaths and confirmed cases than the state is reporting for Somerset County. There has been some ongoing discrepancy between state and county reports. The County is self-reporting a total of 3,342 cases and 297 deaths.
