Police said a private ambulance overturned after a crash with a tractor-trailer at Easton Avenue and JFK Boulevard.

FRANKLIN, NJ — A driver was taken to the hospital with injuries following a crash with a tractor-trailer and a private ambulance in Franklin Township on Tuesday, said Public Safety Director Lloyd N. Fredericks.

On Tuesday at around 1:08 a.m., Franklin Township Police were called to the intersection of Easton Avenue and John F. Kennedy Boulevard after a reported crash involving the two vehicles.

Officers found an overturned private ambulance and a tractor-trailer.

Emergency medical personnel from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and volunteer firefighters from several Franklin Township fire companies also came to help.

The ambulance driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

There were no patients in the ambulance at the time of the crash.

A preliminary investigation indicates the tractor-trailer was driving north on Easton Avenue and the ambulance was driving along the jug handle from Easton Avenue northbound onto John F. Kennedy Boulevard.

The ambulance failed to stop at a red traffic signal and was hit by the tractor-trailer, according to police.

"I want to commend the responding police officers, emergency medical personnel, and volunteer firefighters for their prompt response and professionalism. This incident serves as an important reminder for all motorists to remain alert, obey traffic signals, and exercise caution while driving," said Fredericks.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to the announcement.

Anyone with information related to the crash is encouraged to contact the Franklin Township Police Department at 732-873-2300.
