Flag (Grades 1-2)
The Flag Division Raiders played their best on Saturday with a victory over the Dolphins. Touchdowns were scored by Jake Battagliese, Max Treonze and Ian McCauley. The defense was led by Patrick Irwin, Eric Albee and Steven Kotz. Game MVP for the Raiders was Eric Albee.Division 3 (Grades 3-4)
Andrew Santa Barbara led the Michigan Wolverines to a 19 – 12 victory over the Princeton Tigers in Division 3 play this Saturday at the Triangle Road Complex. Princeton held a commanding 12 – 0 lead (thanks to two TDs by Ryan Vierbuchen) until late in the second quarter when Camryn Loniewski took it around the end for Michigan’s first TD and Santa Barbara ran it in for the extra point. On the opening play from scrimmage in the second half, Santa Barbara followed a block by guard Patrick O’Kane and broke free for a 65-yard touchdown. Late in the fourth quarter, Santa Barbara scrambled through a hole opened by tackle Patrick Walsh and guard Brandon Lobelo, and ran the ball 40 yards for the score, giving the Wolverines a 19 – 12 lead with just a few minutes left in the game.The Princeton Tigers started the game with strong offense and defense and scored two touchdowns in the first half of play off the legs of running backs Michael Kondratuik and Ryan Vierbuchen. Quarterback Tanner Boczon contributed with a bootleg that set up the first touchdown run and Vierbuchen intercepted a pass that allowed the Tigers to score during their next possession. The Tigers defense had a busy day against the Michigan Wolverines offense during the second half with notable tackles by David Ortiz, Luke Cahill, Jason Ma, Owen Albert, Brett Radomski & Vincent Castellano.
Michigan’s defense prevailed in the second half and held the Tigers scoreless, sealing the victory for the Wolverines. Charlie Volpe, O’Kane, Dominick Monsorno, Loniewski, Santa Barbara, Brandon Lobelo and Logan Klaproth all made key defensive plays in the victory. Game MVP was Andrew Santa Barbara.
Also in Division 3 play, Rutgers lost a heart breaker to UConn by the score of 13 - 12 after UConn scored in the final seconds of play. Rutgers controlled the game for the first three quarters and led at half-time 12 - 0. Rutgers’ Tyler Michinard scored in the first quarter on a 5-yard bruising touchdown run, set up by an electrifying 50 yard run to the five by Mason Lane. Kevin O’Sullivan scored on a nifty sweep around the left end for a 20-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Marc Gulla was very active at nose guard throughout the game creating problems in the backfield.
The scored remained at 12 - 0 until late in the third quarter when Rutgers’ Ryan Hauser boomed a punt 45 yards to the 1-yard line. UConn’s Nick Caramico picked it up, reversed field, and took it an amazing 99 yards down the right side for a touchdown. A late Rutgers turnover gave the ball back to UConn at mid-field. A clutch third down conversion pass from UConn’s A. J. Johnson to Kyle Elmalis kept the drive alive. A few plays later, Nick Donnelly swept around right end for a 30-yard touchdown run with less than a minute to play. After converting the extra point, UConn came away with an unbelievable victory.
