Cat With Head Stuck In Mayo Jar Rescued By Tabby’s Place

The hungry stray cat was just looking for a snack when he encountered a jarring experience in Readington.

RINGOES, NJ — A hungry stray cat was just looking for a snack when he encountered a jarring experience.

The black-and-white cat poked his head into a Hellman's jar and then quickly found himself trapped. He began to panic, flailing and lumbering around as he tried to free his head from the jar.

Neighbors in the Readington area spotted the helpless kitty but were unable to get near the frightened feline. So they reached out for help on social media and were eventually put in touch with Tabby’s Place: A Cat Sanctuary.

"As a haven for cats from hopeless situations, Tabby’s Place was a perfect fit for the cat with ill-fitting headgear," said Angela Hartley of Tabby’s Place.

The staff rushed the little cat to the emergency vet, who sedated him and gently removed the jar.

Once free the cat, that staff realized the stray was a feral cat and would be happiest in a safe, outdoor home. They named him Hellman's, very suitable given his situation.

Hellman’s was then neutered and vaccinated and inserted a microchip. Once the staff made sure he was in good health they let him loose into a barn home. Watch his excitement to be free in the video below.

"One thing is clear at Tabby’s Place: when you bring out the Hellman’s, you really do bring out the best," Hartley said. "For one little tuxedo cat, the best is surely yet to come. With one jubilant sprint out of his carrier, he began his next eight lives."

Tabby’s Place at 1100 US Highway 202 in Ringoes runs off of donations. To learn more or to make a donation visit tabbysplace.org.
