Chuck Norris Reminds Somerset County Residents To Lock Their Car Doors

FRANKLIN, NJ — Franklin Township Police are employing the help of Chuck Norris to drive home the message of locking your car doors.

"For the last several months we have been urging our residents and visitors to lock their car doors. First, we enlisted the assistance of Internet sensation Antoine Dobson. Next we had Andy Griffith explain that they are even locking their car doors in Mayberry," Franklin Police posted.

"Every week we continue to see burglaries to unlocked cars. Today we have a true legend passing on our message. Some may know him as Col. James Braddock, J.J. McQuade or Walker Texas Ranger. Regardless of what name he goes by, when Chuck Norris talks, people listen," police continued.

During the early morning hours, an unknown suspect smashed a window with a brick at De Island Breez Shop on Franklin Boulevard and stole a cash register ($250) containing $100 in U.S. currency.

A resident of Liam Street reported that during the early evening hours, an unknown suspect burglarized an unlocked vehicle and stole an Old Navy Jacket ($100) and a Men’s Northface Jacket ($100).

A resident of Holland Drive reported that during the daytime hours, an unknown suspect burglarized a residence and stole a Toshiba Laptop Computer ($1000) and $120 in U.S. currency.

During the late evening hours, an unknown suspect burglarized Somerset Recycling on Somerset Street. Nothing was taken and $200 in damage was caused during the burglary.

During the early morning hours, an unknown suspect smashed the side door of the business on Route 27 and stole a piece of vanilla cake ($2).

During the early morning hours, an unknown suspect smashed the front door of the Radio Shack on Easton Avenue, causing $500 in damage. It is unknown if anything was taken.

A resident of Keenen Street reported that during the overnight hours, an unknown suspect entered her unlocked vehicle and stole a pair of Gucci sunglasses ($400).

An Irvington, NJ resident reported that while attending a hotel party on Cedar Grove Lane, an unknown suspect stole her Apple iPad ($500).

A resident of Como Drive reported that during the overnight hours, an unknown suspect entered an unlocked vehicle and stole a black leather wallet ($100) and prescription pain medications ($197).

During the evening hours, a taxi driver from B.B. Jack’s Taxi Service had two unknown suspects stole her purse and left without paying cab fare on Parkside Street.

Joseph H. Murray, 33, of Somerset, NJ was arrested at RWJUH in New Brunswick, NJ on $322 in outstanding warrants out of Franklin Township, NJ. Murray was released on his own recognizance. “NOTE: We are required by the Rules of Court to include herein a statement explaining that the charges are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

During the afternoon hours, two unknown males had a physical altercation at the Quick Stop Convenience Store on Somerset Street, which resulted in a male breaking the store window values at $400.

An Ari Drive resident reported that during the daytime hours, an unknown suspect burglarized a residence and ransacked the bedroom. Nothing was taken.

01/18/2016

A resident on Easton Avenue reported a bathroom vent fire, which was extinguished by the resident. Police and the Middlebush Fire Department units responded for the incident, which was determined to be electric.

A resident of Girard Avenue reported that sometime in the early morning hours, an unknown suspect entered through a window and burglarized the residence. A window screen was damaged ($5) and nothing was taken.
