Colonial Park To Host Meditative Drumming Circle On Sept. 22

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ — Register for “Drumming in the Garden” and connect with nature. This meditative-healing class, led by professional meditative-drummer Dana McCurdy, will take place on Sunday, Sept. 22, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Colonial Park Arboretum, at 156 Mettlers Road, Somerset.

No musical experience is necessary, and percussion instruments will be provided. The fee is $10 per person. Space is limited. The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 29. Preregistration is required .

Participants will receive step-by-step instructions by Dana McCurdy and experience a deep human connection between rhythm, community, and nature. The drum circle will be a therapeutic, meditative, and recreational experience for participants. Research shows that drumming circles increase endorphins, which can raise pain thresholds and improve mood immediately after drumming.

About Dana McCurdy
Dana McCurdy is a professional drumming teacher who has taught at several well-known colleges including the New School, Ramapo, and Vassar. In 2001, he began a regular communal drumming practice, in response to the emotional stress he experienced from the attack on the World Trade Center. He began leading drum circles in various community settings as a therapeutic, meditative, and recreational practice for his well-being, as well as others.
