Driver Dies In Fiery I-78 Crash In Hunterdon County

The 77-year-old-man's car drove over the center grass median across all lanes of the highway and down a grass embankment on Friday morning.

FLEMINGTON, NJ — A Flemington man has died from his injuries in a fiery crash off Interstate 78 on Friday morning.

Anthony W. Guglielmo, 77, of Flemington, was identified as the driver of a 2017 Chevrolet Trax sport utility vehicle, said New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan.

On Friday at around 6 a.m., Guglielmo was driving east on the on-ramp from County Road 523 to Interstate 78 east. He then ran off the side of the on-ramp into the right shoulder of I-78, continued east before re-entering the on-ramp and hitting the back of a 2015 Mercedes-Benz, said Marchan.

Guglielmo's SUV then continued east before going off the left side of the road through the center grass median across all westbound travel lanes and down the grass embankment off the right side of I-78 west, said Marchan.

The Chevrolet then became fully engulfed, said Marchan.

Guglielmo was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries. The crash remains under investigation and there is no additional information available at the moment.
