Griggstown Causeway Closed Thursday Due To Flooding

MONTGOMERY, NJ — The Griggstown Causeway is closed due to flooding on Thursday afternoon, Somerset County Public Safety announced around 12:15 p.m.

A flood watch has been issued for Somerset County until 6 a.m. on Saturday by the National Weather Service.

Periods of light to moderate rain will continue Thursday with a brief break in the rain expected early Thursday evening.

However, rain is expected to intensify and become more widespread Thursday night with periods of moderate to heavy rain expected to continue into at least Friday, possibly into the weekend, according to the NWS.

As a result, rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are expected with the highest totals along and south of the Interstate 78 corridor. Locally higher amounts are possible across the same area as thunderstorms are expected to periodically develop, according to the NWS.

Three types of flooding are expected as a result such as low-lying and poor drainage flooding; flash flooding; and flooding of larger streams and rivers.

Residents who live across the Passaic, Raritan, and Rancocas basins in New Jersey or the Neshaminy, Schuylkill, and Brandywine basins across Pennsylvania and Delaware should be on alert.
