Man Indicted For Stabbing Dog Walker In The Back In Hillsborough: Police

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A Hillsborough man was indicted for stabbing a neighbor in the back, who was walking his dog, in the middle of the afternoon in May, Somerset County Acting Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart announced Thursday.

Safi N. Hill, 23, of Equator Avenue, Hillsborough, was indicted on charges of first-degree attempted murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and third-degree hindering apprehension or prosecution.

On May 4 at around 2 p.m. a man called 911 and said he was attacked unprovoked while walking his dog in the area of 9th Street and Clawson Avenue in the Flagtown section of Hillsborough, said acting Somerset County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart. The man said he had been punched in the back by a man, later identified as Hill, but Hillsborough Police Officers found that the dog walker was bleeding from stab wounds on his back, said Taggart.

The dog walker, a Hillsborough adult man, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Detectives from the Hillsborough Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, and Somerset County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit came out to investigate.

The same day, Hill was arrested at his home and charged. Hill remains in the Somerset County Jail after being ordered detained pending trial by a Superior Court Judge.

The indictment was presented to the Grand Jury by Somerset County Acting Chief Assistant Prosecutor Robert J. Hawkes.
