Juneteenth To Be Added As Hillsborough Township Holiday

The Township Committee introduced an ordinance at its Tuesday meeting adding Juneteenth as a holiday for Township employees.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — This year, Municipal offices could close on June 19 in Hillsborough Township in observance of Juneteenth.

On Tuesday, the Township Committee introduced an ordinance adding Juneteenth as a holiday recognized for Township employees with Township offices closed and normal operations suspended.

  1. New Year's Day.
  2. Martin Luther King's Birthday.
  3. Presidents' Day.
  4. Good Friday.
  5. Memorial Day.
  6. Independence Day.
  7. Labor Day.
  8. Columbus Day.
  9. Veterans' Day.
  10. Thanksgiving Day.
  11. The day after Thanksgiving Day.
  12. Christmas Eve.
  13. Christmas Day

In 2021, President Joe Biden signed legislation making Juneteenth an official holiday, becoming the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday was approved in 1983. Juneteenth is oldest-known celebration of the end of slavery in the United States.
