Large Brush Fire Sparked By Embers At Amwell Nursery In Hillsborough

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A large brush fire was sparked by embers at Amwell Nursery in Hillsborough on Tuesday.

Hillsborough Police and Firefighters went to Amwell Nursery at 260 Amwell Road around 3:35 p.m. and found a large amount of brush and cut tree logs on fire, said Hillsborough Police Sergeant Chris Peltack.

This was a "manpower intensive operation" where crews had been working for hours to extinguish the fire, according to Hillsborough Township Fire District.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire started after embers from a permitted controlled burn being conducted on the property blew into a large tree pile on the property, said Peltack.

The fire was extinguished by fire personnel and is not deemed suspicious. There were no reported injuries to any civilians or emergency personnel.

As a result of fire department activity, Amwell Road was closed between Willow Road and Amsterdam Drive.
