Letter: Fenwick-Shaffer Runs For Hillsborough's Fire Commission

Letter submitted to the editor by Marian Fenwick-Shaffer who is running Hillsborough Board of Fire Commissioners.

"My name is Marian Fenwick-Shaffer and I am running for the Hillsborough Board of Fire Commissioners. I am a lifelong resident of Hillsborough. My father was a volunteer fire fighter with Neshanic Fire Company. My husband, Bill has been a volunteer firefighter for more than 32 years and is currently the Fire Chief of Hillsborough Vol. Fire Company #2.

I understand the sacrifices that our firefighters and their families make each and every day. I was employed by the NJ Department of Human Services for more than 25 years where I worked with individuals with developmental disabilities. I currently work as a Pharmacy Tech with Shop Rite.

I have also been actively involved in the community serving on the Hillsborough Township Planning Board from 1999 to 2012, the Board of Adjustment in 2013, and the Open Space Advisory Committee in 1999, then from 2003 to 2015. Since 2013, I have been Hillsborough's representative on the Somerset County Planning Board.

As a Commissioner, I will ensure that our firefighters have the equipment, technology, and training to enable them to perform their job safely and effectively. Also, to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of our firefighters who serve and protect our community.

I believe it is important to listen to what the firefighters have to say whether it is a concern, a suggestion, a problem, an idea, etc., so I would always take the time to hear what they have to offer. I appreciate your consideration and thank you for your support."
