HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A Hillsborough man who shot a gun out of his bedroom window and barricaded himself inside was the cause of the commotion on Amwell Road Sunday morning, authorities announced Monday.
Police responded to the Amwell Road home on Sunday at 10:06 a.m. where John R. Alcaide III, 25, of Hillsborough Township, was barricaded inside.
Other family members were reportedly able to safely escape outside.

The road was immediately closed, and the Somerset County Emergency Response Team, which consisted of the County SWAT Team, Hostage Crisis Negotiators, Tactical Emergency Medical Personnel, the Somerset County Communications Mobile Command Center, and the Hillsborough Township Office of Emergency Management Command Post, all responded to the scene.
At approximately 12:29 p.m., Alcaide showed himself to SWAT officers from his bedroom window and left the home unarmed. He was then arrested without incident, according to the report.

Alcaide was charged with Engaging in Threatening/Violent Behavior; Creating a Hazardous/Dangerous Condition; and Possession of CDS (Marijuana under 50 grams), all Disorderly Person Offenses.
He was released on his own recognizance pending a Hillsborough Township Municipal Court appearance on Nov. 15.
