Man Charged In Shooting With Somerset Co. Cops, Busted For Drugs

An investigation found that Isiah Daniels of Highland Park had more than 3,700 wax folds of heroin, according to authorities.

SOMERSET, NJ — A man, who was previously charged in connection with a shooting with Somerset County police during a traffic stop, was recently arrested for having more than 3,700 wax folds of heroin, authorities said.

Isiah Daniels, 31, of River Road, Highland Park was arrested after a foot pursuit in Somerset on Aug. 5. The arrest follows a three-month investigation looking into Daniel for selling heroin and cocaine to undercover police detectives with the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said.

At the time of his arrest, Daniels had about 2,500 wax folds containing suspected heroin. A total of about 3,710 wax folds containing suspected heroin was seized as well as a quantity of cocaine under half an ounce following an investigation, Robertson said.

The heroin seized during this investigation has an estimated street value of about $8,360.

Daniels was charged with second-degree possession of controlled dangerous substance (heroin) with the intent to distribute, second-degree distribution of heroin, third-degree distribution of cocaine, and fourth-degree resisting arrest by flight.

Daniels was taken to the Somerset County Jail pending a bail detention hearing.

Shooting

Previously on July 28 at about 12:35 p.m., detectives with the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office tried to pull over a car on Mitchell Avenue in New Brunswick. The passenger in the vehicle fled on foot and discharged a handgun as he fled, said police. Read More: Shooting At Police After New Brunswick Traffic Stop

The officers did not return fire. After a brief foot chase, the suspect was located and placed in custody. The driver of the vehicle left the scene and was later apprehended by New Brunswick police.

As a result, Joel Lyons, 19, from Somerset was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon and resisting/eluding arrest. Isiah Daniels was charged with obstructing the administration of law, specifically by fleeing a motor vehicle stop. The arrests were made by the New Brunswick Police Department, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.
