Mask Optional Choice To Continue In Hillsborough Buildings

Multiple towns in New Jersey have started to re-implement masks inside municipal buildings. Hillsborough is not one of them.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough residents will continue to have the choice to decide whether or not they want to mask up when entering township buildings.

"At this time, there is no change in our policy for entry into the municipal building," said Township Clerk and Spokeswoman Pam Borek.

Mask mandates have been making a comeback in New Jersey as coronavirus cases continue to rise due to the delta variant.

On Friday, Murphy said all New Jersey students, educators, staff and visitors must wear face masks in school buildings - regardless of vaccination status - when the new school year begins in September, at least to start the year. Since Aug. 4, Hillsborough has reported 29 new positive coronavirus cases. Here is a breakdown of the number of cases, according to Somerset County's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information Hub:

  • Aug. 11 - 7 cases
  • Aug. 10 - 4 cases
  • Aug. 7 to 9 - 12 cases
  • Aug. 6 - 1 case
  • Aug. 5 - 1 case
  • Aug. 4 - 4 cases
