Missing Principal From Franklin, Last Seen At School, Police Launch Search

The New Jersey school principal, who is from Franklin, was slated to attend several meetings but never showed up, police say.

FRANKLIN, NJ — Authorities are asking for the public's help finding a missing New Jersey principal last seen at her school in Essex County.

According to the Franklin Township Police Department, Bertha S. Dyer, 68, of Franklin, principal at Mount Vernon Elementary in Newark, was reported missing by her sister on Wednesday.

Dyer's sister reportedly told police that the principal was last seen around 3 p.m. on Tuesday at her school. Dyer was slated to attend multiple meetings on Wednesday but never showed up, which prompted family members to report her missing, police said.

Authorities said that Dyer is about 5 feet 4 inches tall and drives a white 2011 Toyota 4Runner with the New Jersey registration "U79GXM."
