New Director Of School Counseling Hired In Hillsborough
Cynthia Povall's new position became effective Sept. 27 as she replaces Jessica Smedley.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A new Director of School Counseling was hired in Hillsborough Township Public Schools.
During the Sept. 18 Board of Education meeting, Cynthia Povall was hired for the district effective Sept. 27 through June 30, 2024, with a salary of $130,000.
Povall will replace Jessica Smedley, who resigned.

Superintendent Michael Volpe spoke very highly of Povall and her credentials.
Povall previously served as the Somerset County School Counselor and President of the Somerset County School Counselor Association.

"She is a leader and has all of the qualifications we could possibly need," said Volpe. "It is my enthusiastic recommendation because of her outstanding credentials which have been reviewed by the board."
Povall has been working in the Hillsborough School District for the past 8 years and said "it's probably been my favorite time in my career."
"It's the happiest I've ever been, it's the best district I've ever been in and so I want to say thank you," said Povall.
"It's really important to me that our students, our staff, our families, and our entire community are served well in the area of academics, social emotional, and mental health. My promise to you is I will work my hardest, my best, for each and every student in the school, for their families, as well as their staff," said Povall.
