Reward Increased For Father, Son Wanted in Somerset Shooting

Breaking: The public should not approach the alleged gunman, who is considered "armed and dangerous" or his father, police report.

SOMERSET, NJ — The Somerset County Crime Stoppers has increased the reward to $1,000 for information leading to arrests of father and son duo, who are wanted for the Jan. 3 shooting that occurred in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said.

The shooter is identified as Jaki N. Hooks-Lewis, age 20, of Dewald Avenue in Somerset and his father Jason Lewis, age 43, also of Dewald Avenue is also wanted for helping his son flee from the area following the shooting, authorities said.

Jaki N. Hooks-Lewis is "considered armed and dangerous." Detectives caution the public from approaching either of the men. They have been on the loose since the shooting and are being urged to turn themselves in to authorities, Robertson announced.

Gunshots were reported by multiple 911 calls around 7:44 p.m. on Jan. 3 in the area of Dewald Avenue. Responding officers found a 31-year-old male outside a Dewald Avenue home, suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg, police reported.

Officers provided medical aid to the victim, who was then transported to a local trauma center for emergency treatment.

A criminal complaint has been filed against Jaki N. Hooks-Lewis who is being charged with 2nd Degree, Aggravated Assault. Jason Lewis is charged with 3rd Degree, Hindering Apprehension.
