Road Projects Updates In Hillsborough

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough received $508,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation for the repaving of Beekman Lane Phase 1.

The section to be repaved will is between Amwell Road and Triangle Roads, Mayor Gloria McCauley said.

Assistant Township Engineer Tom Belanger applied for the grant that almost entirely covers the original $538,000 estimate for the project

"Provided there aren’t any unforeseen issues with the section of the roadway the project could possibly be brought in under budget, said McCauley.

The project will now go out for bid for construction to begin by the end of this year or early next spring.

McCauley also addressed other road projects in the township including Falcon Road.

“We are aware the condition of the eastbound lane of Falcon Road is in poor condition and the Department of Public Works has been patching the roadway almost daily,” McCauley said.

The developers of Gateway are responsible for rebuilding this roadway which will include widening, drainage and improvements upon the conclusion of the project. In the meantime, temporary paving repairs on the eastbound lane will be done by the developer.

The Falcon Road repairs are anticipated to begin in late March when the asphalt plants reopen.

Lastly, McCauley noted that on or around March 6, work will begin on the next phase of the bypass. The initial work will involve tree removal which is targeted to be complete by March 31.
