Somerset County: Soul Spectacular Scheduled For August 17

The weather-related cancellation of the free concert by The Stylistics has resulted in a Soul Spectacular on Sunday, August 17, 2014 beginning at 5:00 P.M. in the band shell at Duke Island Park on Old York Road in Bridgewater, New Jersey.

Scheduled to take the stage at 5:00 P.M. is Jobonanno & the Godsons of Soul followed by The Stylistics at 7:00 P.M.

Jobonanno & The Godsons of Soul were recently voted as one of the top ten bands Jersey bands. The band plays songs with a twist that they call “soul in rock-n-roll”. They have opened concerts for James Brown, Bruce Springsteen, Bad Company, Mitch Ryder, Marshall Tucker, and Gary US Bonds. They have also played for several local area fundraisers to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy, Parkinson’s Disease, and ALS. Their sound and style has been compared to another successful Jersey band – Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

The Stylistics have been the most consistent hit makers in Soul Music, producing classics hits that rocketed to the top of the charts and crossed over the pop and R&B charts over and over again. Their timeless romantic ballads including You Are Everything, Betcha By Golly Wow, and People Make the World Go Round, Break Up To Make Up, You’ll Never Get to Heaven, and the ever-famous You Make Me Feel Brand New. Without a doubt, The Stylistics are the most sought after soul balladeers.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring, picnic baskets, chairs and blankets for a beautiful evening of entertainment under the summer skies. Ample parking is available.

The Summer Free Concert series will continue on Sunday, July 20 at 7:00 P.M. with top 40 hits by Time Machine.
