The Hillsborough Dukes were on the road on Saturday and Sunday on the weekend of October the 12th. The Dukes’ competed in games across 4 levels in Iselin, Somerville, Bridgewater and Trenton.
Flag teams
On Saturday the 12th the Yellow Flag team traveled to Iselin to play St. Cecilia’s. It was a successful day for the young flaggers as they reached the end zone 9 times on the day. Parker Taylor scored twice on TD runs as did Adam Stewart with a TD run and a TD reception from Shailen Patel. Patel, Quinn Hayden, Jack McLain, Austin Seiberg and Anthony Sowinski also had TD runs. Steven Hunt and Tyler Pirog also had long runs. The defense held St.Cecilia’s throughout the game and were led by Hayden and Patel.

The Red flag team traveled to Bridgewater on Sunday the 13th. There they played a round robin format against Bridgewater, Flemington and Watchung Hills. The day started against Watchung and the Dukes were held to one score by Jason Roser. The score was set up by long runs from Jack Moran and Cole Hayden. The Dukes defense held their opponent to 1 score with Hayden and Logan McDermid leading the charge. Next the Dukes played Flemington and found the end zone 3 times. Hayden and Francesca Schiro had TD runs while CJ Olney threw a TD pass to Moran. Hayden, Trey McKeever and Julian Brunelle led the defense which held Flemington to one score.

The last games of the day for the Dukes were both played against Bridgewater. In the first game the Dukes held Bridgewater to 2 scores. Hayden, Roser and Tristan Jose led the defense. Olney had a TD run and a TD pass to Hayden who also added a TD run. The final game of the Round Robin saw the Dukes only find the end zone once as Hayden punched one in. James Grohe, Hayden, Olney and Moran led the defense.
Mitey Mites
The Dukes Mitey Mite team also traveled to Iselin to take on St. Cecelia’s. Each team reached the end zone in the 1st half. The Dukes scored on a run by Jeremy Martino, but allowed a TD pass to St. Cecelia’s. The 2nd half saw the Dukes find the end zone 3 times with a long TD runs by Michael Caporaso and Stphen Dowe and a short TD run by Donoven Nicolas. Caporaso, Nicolas and Martino converted the extra points in the 2nd half. The defense only allowed one more score to St. Cecelia’s. This game concluded what was a successful season for the Mitey Mite team.
Junior PeeWee
The Junior Pee Wee team was the last Dukes team to play in Iselin on Saturday. They battled in a hard fought contest and lost 16-6 with the game in doubt until the last few minutes.
PeeWee
The Pee Wee team visited Somerville on Saturday and came up with a big victory. They won by a final of 38-20 and have run there record to 4 & 3.
Cheer
All four cheer teams traveled to Trenton on Sunday the 13th of October to compete at the JVC Cheer Competition. The girls had a great day as their hard work from the season paid off with great performances throughout the day. Both Competition Level teams advanced to the next round of competition as the Junior Pee Wee and Junior Midget will see their attempts to reach Nationals continue. The Flag and Mitey Mite teams also proved the Dukes proud with their performances.
Schedule
The Dukes’ will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, October the 19th & 20th. The Dukes Flag and Mitey Mite teams will be on the road at tournaments in Phillipsburg and North Brunswick. Flag, Junior Pee Wee and Pee Wee will return home on Sunday the 20th to complete their regular season.
