Trapped Hillsborough Woman Airlifted After Crash With Garbage Truck

Police are looking for witnesses to the crash that happened on Friday in Montgomery.

MONTGOMERY, NJ — A Hillsborough woman is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after her car and a garbage truck crashed on Friday, said Montgomery Police.

On Aug. 19 at around 2:52 p.m., Montgomery police, fire and EMS went to East Mountain Road for an accident with injuries.

A passenger of a 2021 Kia Sportage, identified as Susan Campbell, 74, of Hillsborough was reportedly trapped inside the car, said police.

Campbell was extricated from the car and airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick by the New Jersey State Police with life-threatening injuries.

An investigation found that a garbage truck driven by Tony Lopes, 39, of Old Bridge, was backing onto East Mountain Road in Montgomery out of a driveway and was hit by a 2021 Kia Sportage being driven by Daniel Campbell, 73, of Hillsborough.

The investigation was conducted by the Montgomery Township Police, Traffic Safety Bureau, with the help of the Somerset County Prosecutors Office Collision Accident Reconstruction Team, and Hillsborough Police.

The crash caused major damage to the Kia and the road was closed for about three hours.

The crash is still under investigation.
