Punch-Throwing Woman Arrested In Large Hoboken Crowd, Police Say

A woman and man were arrested after a fight broke out in western Hoboken, drawing a large crowd, police said.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A woman who punched another woman in the face, and a man who got between her and the police, were both arrested in Hoboken Tuesday night, according to police.

The pair were nabbed after "all working Hoboken police units" were dispatched to 510 Jackson St. on reports of a fight and possible handgun about 6:40 p.m., police said.

Officers did not find any weapons, they said.

However, they did find a large crowd walking toward 501 Marshall Drive, officials said.

Then, police say, they saw Melissa Walker, 37, argue with another woman and throw punches "multiple times," police said.

When police tried to two pull the women apart, Ricky Walker, 42, tried to pull the officers away, officials said.

Melissa Walker was charged with disorderly conduct and simple assault. Ricky Walker was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, police said. Both were issued summonses and released.

The woman who was punched refused medical attention, police said. One officer was treated by emergency services for leg pain.

The Hoboken police requested mutual aid as they were dealing with the crowd, police said. Officers came from the Hudson County Sheriff's Office, as well as Union City, Secaucus, West New York, North Bergen, the Stevens Institute of Technology, and NJ Transit Police.
