HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken police responded to a pair of separate fistfights last weekend, arresting a 24-year-old from Hillsborough and a 23-year-old from Wharton, authorities said.

According to the Hoboken Police Department, the first fight took place in the area of 89 River Street on Sunday, where a pair of detectives saw Michael Monica, 23, of Wharton, hit another man in the face.

The force of Monica’s punch knocked the other man unconscious and he fell to the ground. As the detectives rushed to the victim’s side, Monica fled the area. When another Hoboken officer arrived on the scene and tended to the injured man, the two detectives caught up with Monica a short distance away and apprehended him.

RIVER STREET ARREST

Another arrest took place on the 300-block of River Street around 8:11 p.m. on Sunday, police said.

A pair of officers responded to the area after receiving a report about someone punching and kicking cars. When the officers arrived on the scene, they saw Calvin Patterson, 24, of Hillsborough, approach another man and punch him, authorities said.

As the two men started to fight, the officers rushed in to break it up. They tried to handcuff Patterson, but he repeatedly pulled away from them, police said.

After a struggle, the officers subdued Patterson, finding a vape pipe with THC oil in his possession. Police transported Patterson to headquarters, where he allegedly refused to let police fingerprint him and urinated on himself and the floor, authorities said.

Police charged Patterson with simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, refusal to be fingerprinted, possession of CDS (marijuana) and possession of CDS paraphernalia. He was given a summons to appear in court and released.

The man who got punched wasn’t seriously injured and refused medical treatment, police said.
