2 Hoboken Teens Win New York Times 'Coming Of Age' Contest

HOBOKEN, NJ — Out of 3,000 submissions from all over the world, two freshmen at Hoboken High School won honorable mention in an art contest in which they responded to the topic of "Coming of Age."

The district announced the honor over the weekend.

The contest, run by the New York Times, was called, "Coming of Age in 2022: Show Us What It’s Like to Be a Teenager Now."

Announced in October, it was open to students 13 to 19 in middle school or high school. The winners were announced in mid January.

The winners from Hoboken are Tasha Fu and Alison Chavez.

Chavez won with a collage. Fu's entry was called "Consumed."

"There were 3,000 submissions from all over the globe, so it is quite an achievement," noted the district.
