34 MPH Wind Gusts Predicted, 'Code Blue' Declared In Hudson County
It may be hard to believe after the un-winterlike weather, but wind chills are expected to drop, and Hudson County is keeping shelters open.
HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — It may be hard to believe after temperatures exceeded 60 degrees in Hudson County this week, but the county has declared a "Code Blue" through early Saturday morning — meaning some warming centers will be open during that time, and shelters may not force occupants to leave at the usual time in the morning.
While temporary warming stations in libraries, schools, and community centers generally are open just during the day, area shelters can accommodate guests overnight.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will drop to 28 degrees Friday into Saturday, with a wind chill value as low as 20 and wind gusts as high as 34 MPH. During the day Saturday, temperatures are expected to climb back to 45 degrees. (See the full NWS forecast here.)
