8 Ways The Hoboken PEF Plans To Help Local Students This Year

The Hoboken Public Education Foundation has raised and delivered more than $230,000 in programs through funding to the district's schools.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken Public Education Foundation (HPEF) is excited for a new school year, and there at least eight reasons why parents and students in the district should be too.

The two-year-old nonprofit– which is made up of local parent volunteers - recently announced several programs that it plans to deliver to students in the Hoboken Public School District in 2017-18.

So far, the HPEF has raised and delivered more than $230,000 in initiatives through private funding to schools across the district. Initiatives on the list for this year include:

  • Second Annual Hoboken Schools Leadership Retreat
  • The Trout in The Classrooms Program (all schools)
  • Newsela Literacy Initiative (all schools)
  • Novel and Leveled Literature Library (all schools)
  • Offsite Learning Experiences (grades K-5)
  • iClickers for Social Studies Instruction (grades 6-8)
  • Global Conflict and Resolution Challenge (grades 6-12)
  • New Marquis Boards (Wallace School and Hoboken High School)

The HPEF’s first initiative in 2017-18 was the Hoboken Schools Leadership Retreat, which helped teachers prepare for the new school year. The August event brought together a group of like-minded principals, directors, deans and teacher leaders, which explored the topics of data analytics and metrics to build a transparent dashboard, which will enable parents and the Hoboken community to track student progress.

“Through private funding from amazing organizations and volunteers, we are able to enhance and elevate the public school experience with these fantastic initiatives to Hoboken public schools,” HPEF President and Co-Founder Shirael Pollack said.

“It’s inspiring and shows how much the community backs Hoboken public schools and wants to help nurture the district with its expanding and diverse needs,” Pollack said. “It is a real credit to the many wonderful things happening in classrooms every day.”
