HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Police have arrested a Hudson County man suspected of murdering his mother at a public housing complex in Bayonne on New Year’s Eve, authorities say.

According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Bayonne police officers responded to a 9-1-1 call about an injured man in the rear courtyard of the Pamrapo Gardens Public Housing Complex on East 50th Street around 10:50 p.m. on Dec. 31.

On arrival, officers discovered 49-year-old Michael Metro suffering from upper body injuries and an open, third-floor window above the area where they found him.

The officers then entered the apartment to find the lifeless body of Metro’s mother – 69-year-old Kathleen Metro – lying on the floor with “visible trauma to her upper torso,” prosecutors said.

A medical examiner determined the cause of death was asphyxiation, and authorities subsequently ruled the manner of death to be a homicide, prosecutors said.
