HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Hours after a man was shot to death in North Bergen on Sunday night, a suspect was found dead in another county, officials said.
The North Bergen Police Department responded around 10:20 p.m. on Sunday to shots fired on Paterson Plank Road near 14th Street, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.
Police found Manuel Colon, 61, of North Bergen with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body, prosecutors said. He was pronounced dead.
Police identified Luciano Vargas, 59, as a person of interest.
When the Wayne Police Department responded to Vargas’ home, he barricaded himself inside, said prosecutors.
The Passaic County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. Team responded. Vargas was later found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The matter is being investigated as a domestic dispute, prosecutors said.
