HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A couple has been indicted in the killing of a 2-month-old boy who died at a North Jersey hospital in March.
Jason Megaro, 27, of Mount Carmel, Pa., and Jenae Vasquez, 20, of the Bronx, were charged Tuesday with aggravated manslaughter, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said on Wednesday morning.
The pair were arrested by U.S. marshals on Tuesday after a grand jury returned an indictment in the 2-month-old baby's death, prosecutors said.
As previously reported, on March 25, the Bayonne Police Department was notified that a 2-month-old injured boy had been brought to Bayonne Medical Center.
The baby was transferred to University Hospital in Newark and pronounced dead the next day.
In May, prosecutors told Patch that the death was being investigated as a homicide. Media reports said police were investigating a noise complaint on Avenue C in Bayonne when they discovered an injured child.
The Regional Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be complications from blunt force injuries
to the head and the manner of death to be homicide, prosecutors said Wednesday.
Besides manslaughter, the couple were also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
The pair were arrested in Mount Carmel and Manhattan, respectively, and will remain in custody in those cities to await extradition to New Jersey, prosecutors said.
The couple was living in Bayonne at the time of the death.
Patch has reached out for more information, and will update this story when more details are available.
