Second Bank Of America Branch In Hoboken To Close, Reopen In Former Barnes & Noble Spot
A second branch of Bank of America in Hoboken will close, but a new location will open at the ex-Barnes & Noble spot on Washington Street.
HOBOKEN, NJ — Just two days after a branch of Bank of America on central Washington Street closed for good, the bank said its other branch, in a historic Hudson Street building, will also close this year — but a new location will open at the foot of Washington Street.
Bank of America at 1 Firehouse Plaza, at the corner of Second and Hudson streets, will close on Nov. 27, a bank spokesperson told Patch on Friday.
The bank will then open a new spot at 55 Washington St.

This location is the first business at the foot of Washington Street, and years ago contained a Barnes & Noble, followed by several other businesses. It's a two-block walk from the Hoboken Train Terminal.
Construction has been ongoing on that square block in Hoboken, currently anchored by CVS, and a redevelopment plan has been proposed.

The bank's branch and ATM at 615 Washington St. closed for good at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The spokesperson said she didn't know what will replace the business there.
According to the Hoboken Historical Museum, the 1 Firehouse Plaza site was the original location of Hoboken's Fire Department headquarters until the 1970s. The building was demolished and replaced by First Jersey Bank around 1976. (See the photo above.)
