Beer Belly? Nope, 30-Pound Tumor, NJ Man Learns At NY Hospital

A bizarre medical case was reported out of a New York City hospital, where doctors discovered a 30-pound tumor in a Hoboken man's stomach.

Kevin Daly’s health insurer objected when he wanted to get a CAT scan of his stomach. But the financial planner from Hoboken, New Jersey knew that something was wrong when he dropped 34 pounds after having open-heart surgery… and his “beer belly” didn’t shrink an inch, a report says.

It turned out it was a tumor. A massive one, the NY Daily News reported.

Daly related his bizarre story to a reporter earlier this month, which began after his surgery in 2015. “I thought they literally left stuffing and tools in me from surgery,” the 63-year-old told the NY Daily News.

After being dismissed by his family, friends and insurance company, Daly decided to get a CAT scan at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. Doctors found a huge tumor that was eventually weighed at 30 pounds, he told the NY Daily News. Read the full report here.

The tumor, identified as liposarcoma, may have been growing for 10 to 15 years and had wrapped around one of his kidneys, but apparently didn’t affect its host’s health, NJ.com reported.

Daly said that since his surgery to remove the tumor, his belly has gone and his organs have returned to their usual position, Fox News reported.
