Man Spat At Cops After They Caught Him With Stolen Phone, Hoboken Police Say
Hoboken police say that a Bloomfield man stole someone's phone and then, when caught, spat at police.
HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken police said that a man spat at them after he was caught with a stolen cell phone at the Hoboken train terminal on Sunday.
Matthew Soler, 28, of Bloomfield was charged with throwing bodily fluids, theft of moveable property, and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
Around 1:10 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, Hoboken Police Officers Ramon Estrella and Christopher Barral were called to meet with a man who said his cell phone was stolen while he was eating lunch at McDonald’s.

The victim said the person who took the phone then somehow used that phone to contact him, telling the victim to come to the Hoboken train terminal to retrieve the device.
The victim was also told not to call the police, he said. However, the man did tell police what happened.

The officers accompanied the victim to the terminal, where they observed Solar, police said.
Solar was stopped. During an on-scene investigation he was found to be in possession of the victim’s phone, police said. Solar also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest issued by Jersey City and Essex County Superior Court, police said.
Solar was arrested and taken to police headquarters.
Police said Solar "was extremely hostile and he spit in a police officer’s face. Additionally, Mr. Solar possessed several wax folds believe to hold CDS heroin."
Solar received the three charges and was taken to the Jersey City Police Department based on his open Jersey City warrant, police said.
