Scouts from Troop 146 recently pitched in to support the community by helping St. Francis Academy in Union City.
Six scouts took time out from their summer break to wash the solar panels and clean up the playground at St Francis Academy. These scouts certainly showed one of the most important aspects of the Scout Law, being helpful.

“St. Francis Academy is grateful to the scouts of Troop 146. These young people took time from their summer break, along with their scoutmaster, to perform service to benefit our school community. God bless you, boy scouts, you are truly men for others,” said Ms. Savage, the principal of St Francis Academy.
These scouts are part of the newly formed “Service Patrol” in Troop 146. This group has been formed within the troop for one reason: service. “This is what Scouting is about. I think this is a great idea and it should be supported,” said Scoutmaster Norman Kasser.

Mr. Kasser went on to say, “The best part of the Service Patrol is that it was entirely created by our scouts. The adult leaders in the troop didn’t decide that we needed a service patrol. Instead, two of our scouts thought it would be a good idea, presented that idea to the rest of the troop, and made their idea a reality.”
Troop 146 of Hoboken was founded in 1984 by Lenny and Marie Luizzi. It is the only boy scout troop in Hoboken, serving boys ages 10 to 18 from throughout Hudson County. The troop is proud to have graduated 27 eagle scouts since its founding. The troop is sponsored by St. Francis Church in Hoboken and is extremely grateful for the church’s full support. To join Troop 146, come to any meeting. The troop meets on Tuesdays during the school year from 7pm to 9pm at the Hoboken Multi-Service Center.
