Candidates Beat Application Deadline for Board of Education Election

Nine candidates will be on the ballot on April 27th

Nine candidates met a 4 p.m. deadline to file the official paperwork necessary to run in the April 27 Hoboken Board of Education election.

The candidates are: Peter Biancamano, Carmelo Garcia, Steven Feinstein, Clifford Godfrey, John Madigan, Jean Marie Mitchell, Anthony Oland, Frances Rhodes-Kearns and Patricia Waiters.

Garcia, Mitchell and Rhodes-Kearns are incumbents. Madigan, Oland and Waiters have also run in recent elections.

Each of the candidates filled a notarized, two-page application form, including  the names of 12 petition signatures. There was no application fee.

According to Board of Education Secretary Robert Davis, most of the candidates filed either on the deadline day or the day before. Madigan and Mitchell were among the last to file, and were present in the secretary's office until 3:55 p.m.

At exactly 4 p.m., Davis ended the filing period by announcing, “that's it folks, the bar's closed.”

So as not to conflict with Passover, the election has been scheduled for a Wednesday. Residents may vote on April 27 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
