Celebrate Hoboken's South Waterfront Park With Free Cake On Friday
Food for the event will be donated by Carlo's Bakery of TLC's "Cake Boss."

The Fund for a Better Waterfront (FBW) is celebrating the “sweet” referendum victory that led to Hoboken’s award-winning South Waterfront park with free cake donated by TLC’s hit TV series, “Cake Boss.”
The public celebration will take place on Friday, July 10, from noon to 2 p.m., at Annette Illing Memorial in Pier A Park, near 1st Street and Sinatra Drive.
Carlo’s Bakery – which is featured on Cake Boss – will be donating the confections for the event.

In a release, the FBW explained the reason for the celebration:
“On July 10, 1990, thousands of Hoboken voters rejected the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and City of Hoboken’s ill-conceived agreement: a massive 3.2 million square foot development designated for South Waterfront’s Piers A and C that included a daunting, 33-story office tower on Pier A.”

“After a second referendum victory in 1992, the city accepted FBW’s proposal for a waterfront park from Newark to 4th Streets. As a result, Pier A, Pier C and the waterfront promenade were dedicated as a public park.”
