Chip City Cookies To Open First 3 NJ Shops In Newark, Hoboken, Ridgewood

The chain of cafes specializes in thick, fresh-baked cookies. The first New Jersey shops will open in Newark, Hoboken, and Ridgewood.

NORTH JERSEY — The New York-based Chip City cookie cafe chain will open its first three New Jersey shops early this year, the company said Wednesday — in Hoboken, Newark, and Ridgewood.

The Newark store will open on Jan. 28 at 2 Gateway Center, and Hoboken will open this February at 113 Washington St., the chain noted. The Ridgewood shop will also open this month, at 305 East Ridgewood Ave.

The chain, founded in 2017, currently has 14 locations, including in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.

The shop specializes in their thick, fresh baked "core cookies" such as chocolate chip, cookies 'n' cream, and dairy-free chocolate chip. They also rotate specials like sweet potato s'mores and blueberry cheesecake.

The Hoboken store, a six-block walk from the train station, had placed signage on its door, next door to the relatively new Shake Shack, more than a year ago.

"Born in Astoria, Queens in 2017, Chip City began as a hobby between childhood friends [Peter] Phillips and Teddy Gailas, as the duo challenged each other on who could make the best cookie," said a spokesperson. "A small storefront, some equipment, and a dream led the entrepreneurial team to listen to that feedback and open their first store."
