Controversy Over NY Waterway Plan For Hudson County Waterfront Refueling Station: Report
Controversy has arisen over NY Waterway's new plan for a refueling building on the Hudson County waterfront, according to a report.
HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — After the city of Hoboken successfully fought a plan by the NY Waterway commuter ferry company to construct a repair facility on its north waterfront — with the city purchasing the land for open space — some Weehawken residents are now fighting plans for the company to expand its existing facilities on that town's waterfront instead, Jersey Digs reported Wednesday.

According to the report, a proposed new building for refueling and maintenance would still allow for a public waterfront walkway and greenspace along the river. NY Waterway has argued in the past that in order to continue transporting thousands of commuters each day, it needs a convenient repair and refueling facility on the Hudson County waterfront.

But Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner told Jersey Digs in the report, “It will be a very difficult sell.” And residents have started a Facebook group called "Weehawken Residents Against Ferry Pollution."
