This County Has New Jersey's Highest Ratio Of Dems To Republicans

When it comes to registered voters, this county has the state's largest Democrat/Republican divide. See the totals here.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — It’s a taken-for-granted political axiom that there are more Democrats than Republicans in Hudson County. But according to the latest voter registration stats from the state, the imbalance now stands at almost six-to-one.

On Sept. 30, the New Jersey Department of State released voter registration totals by party, district and county. According to the election data, there are 197,978 registered Democrats in Hudson County, as opposed to 34,119 Republicans… about 5.8 Democrats for each of their GOP peers.

It’s the state’s largest blue/red divide, ranking ahead of Essex County, which has about 5.17 Democrats-to-Republicans (260,275 to 50,263).

There are also 123,471 unaffiliated voters in Hudson County, as well as thousands of third-party members:

  • New Jersey Libertarian Party – 764
  • New Jersey Conservative Party – 605
  • Constitution Party – 864
  • Green Party – 537
  • Socialist Party of New Jersey - 318
  • Natural Law Party - 272
  • Reform Party of New Jersey – 132
