Delays Abound For Monday Commuters In North Jersey

Whether via car, bus or rail, commuters in North Jersey had a tough time during Monday's rush hour.

Sometimes the hardest part about returning to work on Monday is simply getting there.

Commuters across North Jersey and Essex County found themselves encountering delays during Monday morning’s rush hour, whether by car, bus or rail.

NJ Transit reported that riders on the Morris/Essex line experienced delays due to “slippery rail conditions” on the #6320 train from South Orange at 8:35 a.m., and on trains between Summit and Newark Broad Street around 9:12 a.m.

Riders in Maplewood also saw a 20 minute delay for the #0808 train at 8:41 a.m. due to a “late train.”

BUS

According to the Port Authority of NY/NJ, bus riders experienced a delay getting into New York around 7:14 a.m. due to a disabled vehicle in the south tube of the Lincoln Tunnel.

A four-vehicle accident on the westbound portion of Route #495 caused further delays for bus commuters around 8:30 a.m., and a disabled vehicle in the north tube of the Lincoln Tunnel created delays for NJ-bound buses at the Port Authority around 8:56 a.m.

CAR

The most significant delays on Monday morning occurred at the Lincoln Tunnel, according to Port Authority alerts.

At 9:36 a.m., Port Authority officials sent an alert stating that “the Lincoln Tunnel to New York is experiencing a delay of 60 minutes due to an earlier incident.”

One Lincoln Tunnel commuter reported stand-still traffic around 10 am.

In addition, NJ511 reported numerous delays across Essex County and North Jersey on Monday.

  • As of 9:10am, there are Delays on the Garden State Parkway southbound from South of Exit 149 - CR 506 in Bloomfield to Exit 145 - I-280 in East Orange 3 mile delay.
  • As of 9:09am, there are Delays on the Garden State Parkway northbound from South of Exit 147 - Clinton Ave in East Orange to Exit 150 - Bay Ave in Bloomfield 3 mile delay.
  • As of 8:31am, there are Delays on US 1&9/Tonnelle Avenue northbound between US 1&9 Truck Route/Pulaski Skyway in Jersey City and Secaucus Rd in North Bergen Twp delays due to volume.
  • As of 8:10am, there are Delays on I-78 eastbound Exit 58 - US 1&9/E. Port St in Newark delays due to volume.
  • As of 8:08am, there are Delays on NJ 21 southbound Exit 5 - NJ 21/McCarter Highway in Newark delays due to volume.
  • As of 8:08am, there are Delays on I-280 eastbound Exit 9 - Pleasant Avenue/CR 660 in West Orange Twp delays due to volume.
  • As of 8:08am, there are Delays on I-280 eastbound area of Exit 13 - Orange St/1st St in Newark delays due to volume.
  • As of 8:06am, there are Delays on NJ 24 eastbound Exit 7 - NJ 124/JFK Parkway in Millburn Twp delays due to volume.
  • As of 8:05am, there are Delays on US 1&9 northbound between I-78 and US 1&9 Truck Route/Pulaski Skyway in Newark delays due to volume.
  • As of 8:04am, there are Delays on US 1&9 Truck Route northbound between Raymond Blvd in Newark and NJ 440 in Jersey City delays due to volume.
