Do You Recognize This Woman Found In Hudson River Off Hoboken?

The body of this woman was found floating off Hoboken Oct. 1. Her identity remains a mystery, but police hope someone will recognize her.

HOBOKEN, NJ — As Patch reported, on Tuesday, Oct. 1 the body of a woman was found floating in the Hudson River near Lackawanna Terminal in Hoboken.

Now, nearly three weeks later, the identity of this woman remains a mystery and Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez is asking for the public's help in learning more about who she was and how exactly she died.

The deceased woman is described as being dark skinned and anywhere from 35 to 55 years old. She was approximately five feet tall and weighed approximately 130 pounds. The woman had a distinctive marking on her back, as well as a lengthy scar on her back, and it is believed that she may have worn hair extensions, said a spokesman for the county prosecutor.

At the time she was found, she was wearing black pants, a black long-sleeved sweater and a light-green shirt with a swirling/flowery bead pattern.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1 the Hoboken Police Department received a call of a possible body floating in the Hudson River near the Lackawanna Terminal. A concerned citizen showed Hoboken and NJ Transit police where her body was.

She was pulled from the water and pronounced dead at approximately 4:30 p.m. that day.

Her cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

This composite sketch of how she might have looked was developed by the New Jersey State Police Department Forensic Photography & Composite Artist Unit. Authorities also released photographs of several pieces of unique jewelry she was found to be wearing at the time of her death, as well as a pair of black Puma sneakers she was wearing when her body was pulled from the river.

“We are urging anyone with information that would assist us in identifying this woman to please come forward,” said Prosecutor Suarez. “Something that may seem insignificant to you, no matter how small of a detail, might prove to be significant in helping identify this woman and help lead us to her loved ones.”
