HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken police have charged a New York woman with reckless driving, driving while intoxicated, and leaving the scene after a different woman said she was loading skis into her vehicle Saturday morning when a car hit her skis, pinning her to her own vehicle.

This past Saturday, at 12:16 a.m., Hoboken Police Officers Michael Straten and Marvin DeJesus responded to the area of 100 Marshall St. on a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, Officer Straten spoke to the female victim, who said the following: She was loading her skis through the driver's side of her vehicle. As she was loading her skis, a vehicle traveling south on Marshall Street "collided into the skis, pinning her between the skis and the car door." The victim told police that the car did not stop and kept traveling.

Officer Dejesus located a witness and a suspect. The suspect was identified as Barbara San Martin, 42, from New York, N.Y., police said.

Officer Dejesus requested Officer Domenick Allegretta to perform a standardized field sobriety test on the suspect.

As a result, San Martin was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to headquarters for processing. Breath samples were taken by Officer Harold Milne.

San Martin then received additional motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, and assault by auto, police said.

A responsible party was contacted and police released the suspect to that person.

The defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
