UPDATE: Streets Reopened In Hoboken After Fire
The Hoboken Fire Department battled a blaze on Madison Street just before 4 p.m., officials said. It was "knocked down quickly" they said.
HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken police asked the public to avoid an area in the southwest corner of town due to a fire Monday afternoon.
UPDATE: After 6 p.m., police Tweeted this:
Streets are being reopened, @HobokenFire is finishing up. Happy to report no injuries to anyone. Excellent work by the fire departments on scene as well as @HobokenVol_EMS and our officers. @HobokenPSOA2 @HobokenPBA2

They said the Fire Department was attending to a fire at Third and Madison streets. The area is a few blocks north of the city's border with Jersey City.
At 3:55 p.m. the police Tweeted:

They later said that, in part because of the heat, they would be requesting mutual aid.
At 4:21 p.m., Public Safety Director Ken Ferrante said the fire had been " knocked down," but responders were still on the scene.
"The @HobokenFire, @HobokenPD, @HobokenOEM, @HobokenVol_EMS are on scene of a fire on 300 block of Madison," he wrote. "Fire knocked down pretty fast by HFD under command of Chief Peskens & BC Cassesa. JCFD on scene to assist."
