Eighth Congressional District Primary Election Results
Longtime U.S. Rep. Albio Sires was projected to beat two challengers in the Democratic primary in NJ. He faces a Republican in November.
NORTHERN NJ — Voting for the Democratic primary in New Jersey has ended, with Albio Sires reportedly beating out Hector Oseguera and Will Sheehan for the Democratic nomination to the 8th District U.S. congressional seat. Around 11 p.m. on Tuesday evening, the Associated Press said Sires was the projected winner:

Jason Todd Mushnick had filed to run in that district as a Republican. Thus, he will face the Democratic nominee in November, as well as potential Independents.
The 8th Congressional District includes Bayonne, Belleville, East Newark, Elizabeth, Fairview, Guttenberg, Harrison, and Hoboken.

Check back with Patch later for the numbers, which will be recorded below. As per Gov. Phil Murphy's Executive Order 144, every registered Republican and Democratic voter was mailed a vote-by-mail ballot for the July 7 Primary Election. Ballots mailed today will be counted, so final numbers may not be in until next week.

Sires, who has held his seat for 14 years, was born in Cuba and raised in West New York.
Oseguera has been involved in the campaign of another candidate who pulled a surprise upset in her district (the Bronx and Queens), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He lives in Union City.
Sheehan, a young veteran, lives in Bayonne.

On June 25, the Hudson County Democratic Organization, the county's longtime political organization, released a joint endorsement letter with all 12 mayors, the county administration team, and local state leaders. Locally the HCDO endorsed, among various freeholder candidates, Rep. Sires.
